Profile
Ticia's inspiration for her work comes from her interest in organic forms and her passion is colour and texture. She creates textural pieces by combining a rich variety of threads and materials often inspired by nature and a theme of fragility. She is particularly fascinated in rock formations and has produced a number of works on this subject. Her interest is in the strata and the hidden spaces and layers within the rocks.
Her work has included a large wall hanging, made up of several layers of free hanging and embellished material, showing how rocks become fragile as they are eroded over time. A further installation also addresses the concept of the fragility of life and involves over 70 hanging shoe shapes made from cotton thread moulded into shoe shapes suspended on fishing wire. These shoe shapes range in style from very glamourous high heels to muddy childrens boots. Ticia's work continues to be diverse and recent work has included exploration of colourful geometric squares in addition to textiles inspired by plants, fruit and woodland.
